Written by Kristin Sande
This is the biography of Kristin Sande, and it will be in the first person, as I find it difficult otherwise to write this. Don’t you think it’s creepy when a person refers to themselves in the third person when talking of themselves? Well, it’s kind of like that, creepy for me to write about myself in the third person, that is. That being said, lets get this show on the road, shall we? I am the daughter of Nancy and Doug Sande and my mother is the daughter of Clarence and Vina Njaa. I was born on June 28th, 1974 and will be thirty this year. This is a bit frightening to me, as it has always been the age that I believed that I should be an adult. I certainly don't feel like one yet, but think that I am making great strides! I really had a wonderful childhood. I was born in Fargo, North Dakota and was raised in first Mandan, and then Bismarck, North Dakota. I was an avid Barbie fan, and a mean driver on my Hot Wheels. My sister, Karli, and I put on spectacular productions for family and friends, which by their ability to sit through with a smile on their faces, I think, really proved that we were loved. I saw my grandparents, Mo-Mo and Ga-Ga (nicknames for Clarence & Vina, my grandparents), quite often. In the summer, I practically lived at Resort Grandma. Karli and I swam every day, lounged by the pool, and dined on the fine food prepared just for us by Mo-Mo. I graduated from high school in 1991, and then lived in Germany for 10 months as an exchange student. How could I not go to Sweden, or dare I say, Norway, to live? Probably because that would have been too big a thrill for my parents at the time, and remember, I was a teenager then, and in one of those rebellious stages. While I was there, my parents and sister came to visit me, and I was able to see more of Europe with them. I also had the chance to go back and visit a few years later. After returning to Bismarck, I started a job at a local restaurant as a cook to save up money for college. After a year, I went to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks to study. This lasted but a year, as I really missed cooking. I never planned to become a chef, but I have just never been able to stay away from it. I have worked at over a dozen restaurants, with brief stints in Minneapolis and Tucson, Arizona. Shamefully enough, I have never made lefse, or kumla, or any Scandinavian specialty, for that matter. I am now employed by Prairie Knights Casino as a Sous Chef, and live in Bismarck with my two cats. For those of you who are attending the reunion and have never met me, or have not seen me in a while, the picture on my page was submitted by my father, and is more than ten years old. I would not agree to a single recent photo, so he sent the old one in! |
