Aside from my parents, my Grandma and Grandpa Johnson were the biggest influence in my life. The fear of dissapointing them was probably a bigger motivator for me than any punishment my parents could dispense. Their love and respect for each other, and for their children and grandchildren, were evident to all and guided all that they did. They touched countless lives outside of our family, by their great example as parents and citizens of their communities, being involved and caring for others because they thought it was their responsibility to be. While Grandma's passing is painful, I take solice in the fact that she has joined D. Roger and is now watching over us. I just hope that we can internalize all the great lessons they taught us and live up to the stellar example that they set for us. Their presence has been center of gravity for our family for my entire life, so losing both of them in a span of three months has been traumatic. Hopefully our memories of them can continue to provide that steady anchor for us.
